5 to 9 : Goibhniu
15.08.2014
It’s no secret that we like a good drink on a Friday in the studio.
After a long week like this one, we reckon we’ve earned a tipple. And conveniently, our good friend and barman Helgi has put together a cocktail just for us!
Composed of classic Gaelic staples Jameson whisky and Bunratty mead blended with lemon juice, runny honey and egg white, it’s a rich, frothy and balanced cocktail that incorporates the colours of the Irish flag while also being a resolutely modern mix of ingredients.
Garnished on top with orange peel and sage, we’ve christened it the ‘Goibhniu’, and it’s going down very nicely this evening thanks.
Here’s how to make it, if you’re feeling creative:
GOIBHNIU
35ml of Jamesons whisky
+ 35ml of Bunratty mead
+ Juice of half a lemon
+ 2 teaspoons of runny honey
+ 1 egg white
+ slice of orange peel & a few leaves of sage for garnish
1. Add the whisky, mead, lemon juice, honey and egg white to a cocktail shaker.
2. Add a handful of ice and shake well for a full 30 seconds.
3. Strain the cocktail into a whiskey tumbler.
4. Rub the orange peel around the lip of the glass, then twist and add this as well as the sage as garnish.
